Formed by a pair of professional songwriters, ill peach fuses anthemic alt-pop with dance-rock to create tracks that gleam while remaining defiantly unconventional. Those eccentric leanings surfaced clearly across the anxious material that filled their wide-ranging first album, the 2023 release titled THIS IS NOT AN EXIT.

Now based in Los Angeles after earlier stretches in New York and, originally, Wyoming and Minnesota, Jess Corazza and Pat Morrissey began their careers penning material for others. Their joint credits already included SZA, Weezer, SAINT JHN, and Icona Pop before they followed repeated suggestions to front their own band, recognizing that their sound was too unusual for most outside projects. Adopting a loose method with instruments and featuring Corazza on lead vocals, the duo issued their first single under the ill peach name—the sultry “GOOD MORNING BLUES”—in mid-2019. Its heavily edited vocals, use of household objects for percussion, and extended saxophone solo confirmed its off-kilter character. A more polished EP, EXCUSE US WHILE WE FIND OUR MINDS, appeared on their own Pop Can Records imprint in August 2021 and achieved solid streaming results, led by the track “GUM,” which surpassed one million plays. Hardly Art brought the pair aboard ahead of the November 2023 arrival of their first full-length collaboration, THIS IS NOT AN EXIT.
