Biography
Hailing from New York, the duo Jack + Eliza functions as a vocals-and-guitar unit specializing in indie rock shaped by prominent harmony and a pronounced influence from 1960s sunshine pop. The project originated with childhood friends singer/guitarist Jack Staffen and singer/guitarist Eliza Callahan, who first connected when Callahan took on drums in Staffen’s band during eighth grade. Following the eventual breakup of that group, the two kept composing material together, establishing the core of Jack + Eliza by their senior year of high school. While Staffen studied at New York University and Callahan attended Columbia, the pair began playing shows across N.Y.C. and issued the 2014 EP No Wonders through Yebo Music. Their debut full-length arrived the next year as the Chris Zane-produced Gentle Warnings.
