Biography
JAMESDAVIS, an Alternative R&B-leaning trio, unites fraternal twins Rey Reynolds and Jess Reynolds with their brother Auston Reynolds. The group first presented its mellow yet intricate style—marked by alternating leads and three-part harmony vocals—through a self-titled EP issued in 2015.
The three musicians established the act in Los Angeles during 2012. Their chosen name draws directly from family history: James serves as the middle name for every male member of the Reynolds family, and Davis is the maternal surname of the siblings’ mother. Before the trio assembled, Jess maintained a recording agreement overseen by songwriter and producer Harold Lilly, whose credits appear throughout numerous J Records releases from the 2000s and elsewhere. Rey, meanwhile, received guidance from ace soul singer and songwriter Leon Ware. The Reynolds siblings began collaborating organically, secured a deal with Motown, and delivered their eponymous debut EP in May 2015. Still on Motown, the group issued two further EPs in 2018—217 and Lamplighter, Vol. 1—before releasing its fourth EP, MASTERPEACE, in mid-2019.
