Jennifer Knapp, an alternative CCM folk-rock artist, launched her recording career in 1994 via an independently issued cassette that moved more than 2,000 units within twelve months. Two years afterward came her debut full-length Wishing Well; the project’s reception drew the notice of Gotee Records, which put out her 1998 album Kansas, helmed by Audio Adrenaline frontman Mark Stuart. Early in 2000 the Grammy-nominated Lay It Down reached stores, succeeded the following year by the autobiographical The Way I Am. Knapp then withdrew from public view for the balance of the decade, settling in Australia, only to resurface in 2010 with the more secular Letting Go. At the same time her memoir Facing the Music appeared, she issued her fifth album, Set Me Free—produced by Jacob Lawson—through Righteous Babe Records. She returned in 2017 with Love Comes Back Around; under Viktor Krauss’s production the record emphasized the rootsier facets of her musical approach.
