Jillette Johnson, a singer and songwriter, crafts contemporary pop that is both melodic and introspective, relying heavily on her powerful voice and piano skills shaped by classical training. Her initial recognition came through performances in New York City, coinciding with the 2013 release of her first album, Water in a Whale. After moving to Nashville, Johnson broadened her musical style, incorporating more elements of classic pop and folk, evident in her 2017 release All I Ever See in You Is Me and the 2021 album It's a Beautiful Day and I Love You, which draws from 1970s influences. Born in California in 1989, she spent her childhood in Pound Ridge, New York, starting piano lessons at the age of five. Already by twelve, local audiences heard her original compositions performed. She later relocated to New York City, issuing her first EP, Whiskey & Frosting, during 2012. The subsequent year brought her debut full-length album Water in a Whale, crafted under the production of Peter Zizzo and Michael Mangini. She maintained an active schedule with live shows supporting artists including Mary Lambert, Delta Rae, O.A.R., and Marc Broussard, among additional performers. A short stay in Los Angeles preceded her permanent relocation to Nashville. In that city, she created her second album, the 2017 effort All I Ever See in You Is Me, under Dave Cobb's production. The track "Love Is Blind" served as its centerpiece, presenting a sound more acoustic and performance-oriented compared to her initial record. After sharing stages with Parker Millsap and Penny & Sparrow, she issued her third album in 2021, titled It's a Beautiful Day and I Love You. Joe Pisapia handled production duties, and the project reflected influences from songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin.
