Biography
Emerging with a neo-rockabilly aesthetic fused to modern dance-pop rhythms, singer Jimmy Ray originated in East London, where his early years revolved around repeated plays of vintage singles by Elvis, Cliff Richard and Tommy Steele. He next appeared as one half of the techno outfit A.V., which completed an album that never saw release; when he launched a solo trajectory, manager Simon Fuller—already celebrated for elevating the Spice Girls to global prominence—took him on. The UK debut of his opening single, "Are You Jimmy Ray?," arrived in late 1997 and registered as a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, with his self-titled LP arriving the year after.
