Contemporary R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Jordan Bratton made his stage debut at age nine, portraying Simba in a Broadway staging of The Lion King, before shifting his focus toward music. RCA took notice after an impressive showcase and offered him a contract. In late 2013 he began attracting listeners beyond his New York base by self-releasing the free digital-download mixtape The Grey Area, handling every production duty and featuring no guest artists. The next year he earned co-songwriter and co-producer credits on Kim Cesarion’s “Angel Wings.” Early 2015 saw the arrival of his first official single, “Danger,” which featured Fabolous and previewed the EP Youth; Bratton supported the project by serving as opening act for labelmate Jazmine Sullivan. Youth reached stores that May and included the track “Prisoner,” which carried a guest verse from Chance the Rapper. Following several standalone singles and additional guest spots, Bratton finished Driver’s Ed, a largely self-produced mixtape issued by RCA in October 2017.
