Biography
After taking music lessons and joining Cuco Valoy's orchestra, Dominican trumpet player, composer, and arranger José Peña entered the tropical scene by writing songs that included "El Millonario" and "Desilusión." He assumed leadership of la Artillería in 1989, then moved on to Cocoband where he performed with Alfonso "Pochi" Vásquez and Kinito Mendez. Once his stint in the project la Rockabanda ended, José Peña created la Banda Gorda and quickly captured the group's first album, Libre Al Fin.
