Juicy

Juicy formed as the brother-and-sister duo Jerry Barnes and Katreese Barnes, earning a Top 20 R&B placement through the single "Sugar Free." Earlier recordings appeared on Arista via the album Love's a Merry-Go-Round in early 1983 and on Atlantic with Beat Street Strut, featured in the film Beat Street during summer 1984, before the pair joined CBS-distributed Private I Records. The preceding singles "Bad Boy" and "It Takes Two" set the stage for the breakthrough track "Sugar Free," whose sound recalled Mtume's number one R&B gold single "Juicy Fruit." Those ingredients produced notable results for the Barnes siblings when "Sugar Free" climbed to number 13 R&B in early 1986. Their only other charting single, "Nobody but You," reached number 59 R&B in spring 1986 on the CBS-affiliated label. Two Juicy albums also registered on the charts: the self-titled Juicy in spring 1983 on Arista and It Takes Two in spring 1986 on Private I.
