Biography
Katzù Oso operates as the creative alias of Paul Hernandez, a singer, songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles whose output centers on introspective bedroom pop constructed around dense layers of synthesizers and understated vocals delivered in both English and Spanish. Across projects such as the 2020 release Colour, Hernandez fuses reflective yet relaxed pop melodies with luminous keyboard lines and rhythmic grooves, drawing from classic synth pop, chillwave textures, and Latin pop traditions.
Born and raised in Montebello on the eastern side of Los Angeles to parents who had relocated from Mexico, Hernandez absorbed a wide range of sounds during his formative years. He first performed with the indie rock group Spoken Folks before shifting focus to his solo material under the Katzù Oso name, where the former bandmates continued to provide live support. Initial tracks appeared in 2017, generating enough attention to secure support slots alongside Tyler, The Creator and BROCKHAMPTON. The 2018 EP Pastel gathered his early, polished, and intimate pop aesthetic, while later material leaned further toward dancefloor energy through infusions of new wave and synth-funk. Ahead of the 2020 EP Colour came a remix of Poolside’s 2019 track “Can’t Stop Your Lovin’,” with the EP itself featuring a collaboration alongside Mariachi Lindas Mexicanas and Ulises Lozano of Kinky.
