A contemporary R&B performer whose thoughtful lyrics and deeply expressive vocals run consistently through his catalog, Kevin Ross gained momentum as a solo act after securing a Motown contract. The singer, songwriter, and producer issued his first full-length project, The Awakening, in 2017, then shifted to an independent path. After founding Art Society Music Group, he delivered the paired Audacity EPs in 2020, followed by Drive 2 in 2021, and resurfaced in 2023 with the two installments of the Midnight Microdose EP series.

Growing up surrounded by music in his native Washington, D.C., Ross completed studies at a local performing-arts high school and received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. While pursuing a degree in contemporary writing and production, he claimed victory in the Wild Out Wednesday contest on BET’s 106 & Park. Producer Troy Taylor noticed the performance, which opened doors to session work on projects by Trey Songz, Noel Gourdin, Johnny Gill, and SWV, and prompted Ross to circulate his own independent recordings. Once signed directly to Motown, he debuted on the label in 2014 with the four-track Dialogue in the Grey EP, which included a guest spot from T.I. on the ballad “Don’t Say You Will” and a contribution from Ne-Yo on the slow jam “Overrated.” Momentum continued with the late-2016 single “Long Song Away,” which reached the top of Billboard’s Adult R&B chart, paving the way for The Awakening the following March and the Drive EP six months afterward.

Departing Motown, Ross established his own Art Society Music Group imprint and scored a 2019 chart entry with “Thing Called Love.” He next unveiled Audacity, Vol. 1 and Audacity, Vol. 2, later compiled as Audacity Complete, then returned in 2021 with Drive 2, which featured the number-nine Adult R&B hit “Looking for Love.” The artist subsequently mapped out a three-part EP series titled Midnight Microdose; its opening volume arrived in May 2023, fronted by the single “Look My Way,” while the second installment followed four months later, spotlighting the Eric Bellinger-assisted track “Ready for It.”
