Electronic music luminaries Kaskade and deadmau5 united as Kx5 to craft euphoric house anthems aimed at festival crowds. Their launch came in 2022 through the chart-topping single "Escape," which anchored the Grammy-nominated self-titled album issued the next year.

Ryan Gary Raddon, who records as Kaskade, and Joel Thomas Zimmerman, known professionally as deadmau5, had already teamed up once before. In 2008 they released the singles "Move for Me" and "I Remember," the latter featuring vocalist Haley Gibby; both tracks dominated clubs, topped Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, and reached the U.K. dance top three. The pair stayed in touch and worked together again on later efforts, among them 2016’s "Beneath with Me" with Skylar Grey.

March 2022 marked the formal debut of the Kx5 project, introduced by the hit single "Escape" featuring British singer/songwriter Hayla, which led the U.S. Dance/Mix Show airplay chart. That May they performed live for the first time at EDC Las Vegas; later that year they headlined the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, drawing 50,000 fans and setting the record for the largest single-day concert by an electronic artist in North America.

After dropping two more singles, "Alive" with the Moth & the Flame and "Avalanche" with James French, Kx5 delivered their first full-length album in March 2023. The set featured additional tracks including "Sacrifice" with Sofi Tukker and "Bright Lights" with AR/CO. It reached number six on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.
