Biography
Saxophonist Lebron Dennis, who also performs under the name Lebron, crafts an instrumental blend of soulful R&B, jazz, and pop. He first surfaced in the Phoenix scene during the 2010s, maintaining a daytime role as a firefighter and paramedic while releasing early projects such as the 2013 album Shades and its 2015 follow-up New Era.
A native of Mesa, Arizona, Dennis grew up as one of three brothers to a dentist father and a nurse mother. Pushed toward music early on, he received several years of piano and guitar instruction before switching to saxophone once he reached middle school. Interest remained low until his mother brought him to a performance by guitarist Earl Klugh, whose ensemble included alto saxophonist Michael Paulo, at which point the instrument became an obsession. From then on he devoted hours daily to practice and received private lessons from Hugh Lovelady, the saxophonist known for his tenure with Frank Sinatra’s band. Throughout adolescence he thrived in school ensembles, performing with the concert band and wind ensemble while securing first-chair placement in the regional youth orchestra Young Sounds of Arizona.
Despite his musical drive, Dennis followed his father’s counsel after graduation and pursued pre-med studies at Arizona State University and Oregon State University. He simultaneously refined his style by absorbing the work of vocalists Brian McKnight, Phil Perry, and Will Downing alongside jazz figures Kirk Whalum, Grover Washington, Jr., and Gerald Albright. After completing his degree he split his schedule between a musical career and continued shifts as a firefighter and paramedic. His solo debut arrived in 2013 with Shades. Two years later he returned with New Era, an album that incorporated contributions from vocalist Keith Fluitt, trumpeter Lin Rountree, violinist Rachael Gehmlich, and additional musicians. Momentum built quickly, allowing him to step away from firefighting entirely. In 2019 he delivered his third studio album, Undeniable, which contained the tracks “If Feels Different” and “Let Me Count,” the latter featuring vocalist Anthony Saunders.
