Originating from Andover in the same manner as the Troggs, The Loot operated as a more pop-oriented and lower-profile counterpart to that band. Their guitarist Dave Wright had participated in the Troggs during the group’s early days and filled in briefly for Chris Britton when Britton departed for a short period in 1967. The Loot released their output on Page One, the label founded by Troggs manager Larry Page, and introduced themselves with the 1966 debut single “Baby Come Closer,” a song the Troggs would also record for their second LP.

Across their half-dozen singles issued from 1966 to 1969, the band never secured material capable of generating a substantial hit. They delivered competent if undistinguished moddish pop/rock that sometimes turned lusty and raw, yet never to the degree exhibited by the Troggs. Seven of the twelve songs from those singles appear on the various-artists compilation Untamed & Innocent, which additionally contains rarities by fellow collector-favorite mod outfits the Sorrows, the Untamed, and the Thoughts.
