Los Amables Del Norte

In the early 1990s, accordionist and lead vocalist Ignacio "Nacho" Hernández nearly lost his life after his car struck a pole. He spent 17 days hospitalized, 12 of them in a coma, then reassessed both his personal direction and musical ambitions. Soon after discharge he enlisted bassist Chayo Velenzuela, bajo-sexto player Alfredo, and drummer Larry Hernandez to launch Los Amables del Norte. Hernández’s guidance quickly shaped the band’s signature romantic take on norteño music. The quartet issued four albums—Con La Fuerza Sinaloense, Tambien Las Mujeres Pueden, Rancheras Y Corridos, and Chalino Sanchez With Los Amables Del Norte—on modest regional imprints before signing with the leading Latin label Sabinas Discos in 1998.
