Specializing in hardcore corridos, the regional Mexican band Los Amos de Nuevo Leon hails from Modesto, California and issued multiple major-label albums through Universal Music Group near the start of the new millennium. The lineup features Jose Guajardo handling accordion and vocals alongside Esteban Guajardo on bass and vocals, with Francisco Romero on bajosexto and Jesus Flores on drums. Their recording path opened via Mar International, which issued Corridos de Peligro in 1996, Los Amos de Nuevo Leon in 1996, and Sentencia de por Vida in 1996. A run of Universal releases followed, encompassing Pantano de Cocodrilos in 1999, Completamente Tuyos in 2001, Regreso Al Pantano in 2002, and the 2002 greatest-hits set Oro Norteño. Several years afterward the group reemerged on the independent imprint Solo Records with El Hyphy (Jai-Fi) in 2008. By 2013 they had folded additional electronic beats into their style, labeling the updated approach “hyphy” after the party-rap sound emerging from Bay Area hip-hop, and they unveiled The Ultimate Hyphy Collection that year.
