Besides his roles as Michael Lee on HBO’s The Wire and Dixon Wilson on the CW’s 90210, actor Tristan Paul Mack Wilds adopted the streamlined name Mack Wilds in 2010 to pursue an R&B career alongside his screen work. The Staten Island native inked a recording contract that year with the Ten2One imprint. The following year his song “2 Girlz” appeared in an episode of 90210, and his debut EP, Remember Remember, arrived before December. After moving to Salaam Remi’s Louder Than Life label, which was distributed by Sony, he issued his first full-length project, New York: A Love Story, in 2013. The album included contributions from Raekwon, Method Man, and Doug E. Fresh, entered Billboard’s R&B/hip-hop chart at number 28, and later earned a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Several singles issued through Sony in 2015 included a reinterpretation of Michael Jackson’s 1992 hit “Remember the Time” and the throwback track “Love in the 90z.” Wilds subsequently became an independent artist and delivered his sophomore album, AfterHours, in 2017, the same period in which he portrayed aspiring rap producer DeeVee on the VH1 series The Breaks, a drama set in early-’90s New York City.
