Ramon Oliveira, recognized globally by reggaeton listeners under the stage name Magnate as one half of the duo Magnate & Valentino, entered the world on October 24, 1982, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The middle child among four brothers, he revealed an early gift for singing. Drawn to hip-hop and immersed in reggaeton since its initial emergence, the budding performer launched his career in 1998 when he and his friend Valentino appeared together on the Warriors, Vol. 2 compilation. Building momentum as a rising pair, Magnate & Valentino soon appeared on additional underground releases including Gargolas, Vol. 3, The Flow, and Da' Cream IV. By the moment the genre crossed into broader commercial territory, the duo already commanded a loyal following. Their first full-length project, issued through VI Music in 2002 under the title Rompiendo el Hielo, moved more than 50,000 units and reached number 14 on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums chart. Subsequent years brought two further successful joint efforts with Valentino—Sin Limite in 2003 and Before & After in 2006—alongside guest spots alongside leading figures such as Glory, Nicky Jam, Alex Gargolas, and Eliel. Capitalizing on his heightened profile within the partnership, Oliveira secured a solo deal with Machete Music, the urban Latin imprint of Universal Music. That first individual outing, Progresivo, arrived in January 2007.
