Makano serves as the performing alias for Panamanian vocalist and composer Hernán Enrique Jiménez, a leading figure in reggaeton’s romantic style whose catalog has achieved strong sales and consistent chart traction. His videos have accumulated hundreds of millions of streams, while individual tracks have repeatedly reached the upper tier of Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and digital-download rankings.

The moniker traces back to Los Makanos, the adolescent reggaeton collective he joined at twelve, already composing original material; his fellow members urged him to retain the name for his debut solo release. By sixteen he had flooded the market with independent singles, collaborating with assorted publishers and minor imprints. His father, however, pressed him toward formal schooling rather than music. In 2004 a placement on the La Alianza: La Unión Hace La Fuerza compilation afforded his first tangible foothold; independently issued solo cuts soon received Panamanian airplay and chart entries.

PanamaMusiCorp and Universal’s Machete Music signed him in 2007. Although the label debut “Si Tu Não Le Dices” barely registered, “Ti Amo” topped Hot Latin Songs in 2009 and earned recognition for logging more than ten weeks at the summit; worldwide digital sales surpassed one million units. The accompanying album of the same title attained gold certification in the United States and double-platinum status across Central America. Also that year, the early-singles collection 6 Super Hits entered the Top 40 on multiple charts, while the follow-up “Dejame Entrar” reached the Top 20. Makano collected a Premios Lo Nuestro trophy along with additional honors.

To maintain momentum, he previewed the next project, Sin Fronteras, with the Josenid-assisted “Su Nombre en Mi Cuaderno,” which spawned further charting releases “Como Hago Para Olvidarte,” “Somos Amantes,” and “Dejame Volver.” In subsequent seasons Makano maintained an intensive touring schedule, supplied material for fellow acts, and continued issuing singles and videos, among them the 2016 offerings “Se Acabo,” “Tu Desconfianza,” and “Me Rehúso.”
