Mammoth WVH draws from metal, grunge, alternative, and hard rock as the solo outlet for Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of guitar icon Eddie Van Halen. Wolfgang had served as Van Halen’s bassist since 2006, a tenure that concluded with his father’s death in 2020. He honored Eddie through the project’s inaugural single, “Distance,” which featured on the self-titled debut album issued in 2021. Early 2023 brought the follow-up single “Another Celebration,” previewing the second album, Mammoth II.

Born in 1991 as an only child, Wolfgang maintained an especially tight bond with both parents and absorbed musical instruction from his celebrated father before entering the Van Halen lineup as a teenager. In 2012 he also aligned with Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti’s band Tremonti, first substituting on bass for a tour and later becoming a permanent member. Wolfgang had been quietly developing his own songs, yet he withheld the material until Eddie passed in October 2020. The following month he established Mammoth WVH, adopting the name from the earliest Van Halen configuration in which his father sang lead. A capable vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Wolfgang performed and recorded every part himself. The Grammy-nominated “Distance” appeared in November 2020 together with a video montage assembled from family footage that chronicled his life with his father through 2020. The dynamic self-titled debut arrived the next year, topping Billboard’s Indie, Hard Rock, and Rock charts while reaching number 12 on the pop chart.

“Another Celebration” served as the opening single from the ten-track sophomore release Mammoth II, a darker and heavier effort that addressed grief, isolation, and resilience.
