Stone Broken came together in 2013 as a British hard rock and post-grunge quartet in Walsall, the storied industrial center in England’s West Midlands close to Birmingham. Rich Moss, the group’s singer and guitarist, had previously played in another band yet stepped away from music four years earlier after losing a bandmate to alcoholism. Employed at the time as a data analyst, he felt the pull to create again and started jamming with his longtime friend Robyn Haycock on drums. The addition of bassist Kieron Conroy and lead guitarist Chris Davis completed the lineup, with the four members united by their enthusiasm for classic Black Country metal from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin as well as contemporary American bands including Black Stone Cherry, Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman, Halestorm, and Alter Bridge. Their first release, the self-issued EP The Crow Flies, arrived in 2014 and quickly led to regional performances that helped establish a solid live following. Two years later the original EP tracks were remastered, expanded with five fresh songs, and issued as the full-length debut All in Time. Multiple cuts received airplay, generating substantial attention and drawing a receptive audience. In 2017 the band signed with Spinefarm, a Universal subsidiary, which put out their second album, Ain’t Always Easy, the next year.
