Biography
Mehrzad Marashi, a German soul-pop singer, first captured widespread attention by claiming victory on the 2010 season of Deutschland Sucht den Superstar and quickly converted that exposure into chart dominance. Born in Iran on September 20, 1980, he relocated with his family to Hamburg, Germany, at the age of six. Shaped by the sounds of Xavier Naidoo, Lionel Richie, and Boyz II Men, he launched his recording efforts as Marasco under Warner Music Group. After joining the roster in 2006 he issued the singles “She’s Gone” and “Es Tut Mir Leid,” yet neither registered commercially, prompting an early conclusion to the arrangement. Before securing his breakthrough via Deutschland Sucht den Superstar, Marashi had already devoted numerous years to establishing himself as an R&B artist. Selected for the program’s seventh season, he debuted on television February 13, 2010, delivering Naidoo’s “Und Wenn ein Lied.” Subsequent weekly performances of Richie’s “Hello” and “Endless Love,” Kool & the Gang’s “Fresh,” Madcon’s “Beggin’,” and additional selections steadily expanded his audience. At the finale where he was named champion, Marashi introduced his debut single “Don’t Believe,” written and produced by show host Dieter Bohlen. The track achieved immediate international success, ascending to number one on the German and Austrian singles charts while peaking at number two in Switzerland. Its successor, “Sweat (A La La La La Long)” recorded with Mark Medlock, also performed strongly by reaching number two in Germany. Issued through Sony Music, Marashi’s first album New Life arrived later in 2010 and entered the Top Five, showcasing a stylistically varied collection shaped by Bohlen and Volker Neumüller.
