German ensemble MEUTE consists of eleven musicians who function as a techno marching band, delivering both reinterpreted club tracks and original material through brass and percussion. They appear in clubs and concert halls with amplification, while also delivering unamplified street sets. Their first release, a 2016 cover of Âme’s “Rej,” spread rapidly online, after which the band placed Laurent Garnier’s “The Man with the Red Face” at the front of their 2017 debut album Tumult; later recordings have included material by Deadmau5, Disclosure, Trentemøller, and additional artists. Empor, their fourth studio album, surfaced in 2024.

Founded in Hamburg during 2015 by trumpeter Thomas Burhorn, the group issued their debut single—an interpretation of Âme’s “Rej”—in 2016, where it drew notice across social platforms. Further singles followed, among them “Kerberos” (Stephan Bodzin & Marc Romboy) and “Underground” (Nick Curly & Dennis Ferrer). Tumult arrived the next year on the band’s own imprint and opened with their version of Laurent Garnier’s “The Man with the Red Face”; MEUTE subsequently shared a stage with Garnier at France’s Festival Yeah! Demand grew quickly, leading to regular bookings at clubs and festivals worldwide. In 2018 a street rendition of Flume’s remix of Disclosure’s “You & Me” circulated widely, prompting the band to issue a studio recording alongside covers of Trentemøller’s “Miss You” and Dennis Ferrer’s “Hey Hey.” After 2019 singles such as “Gula” (Deadmau5) and “Customer Is King” (Solomun), they released Live in Paris, captured during a 40-city European tour, and performed additional concerts across Africa and North America.

Puls, the ensemble’s second studio album, emerged in 2020 and featured reworkings of tracks by Röyksopp, Flume, and Oscar House together with several original pieces. A 2021 collaboration with ÄTNA produced the single “Weirdo,” while Taumel arrived in 2022 containing material originally by Maceo Plex, Deadmau5, the Blaze, and others. During 2023 the group covered AWOLNATION’s “Sail,” joined pølaroit for “Verden,” and worked with Henrik Schwarz on “The Coup,” also recording his composition “Come Together.” Empor, issued in 2024, presented MEUTE’s interpretations of songs by Erykah Badu, Objekt, and Floating Points.
