Biography
Hailing from Brooklyn, Mothxr crafts synth-driven pop shaped by 1980s new wave and R&B. The four-piece lineup includes actor/singer Penn Badgely, Reputante and Lolawolf bassist/producer Jimmy Giannopoulos, guitarist Simon Oscroft, and keyboardist Darren Will. Though the members had long been friends bonded by a mutual passion for hip-hop, Mothxr first assembled in 2014 after they leased a house in Los Angeles for songwriting. Setting an eight-day deadline, they tracked five songs across five days, among them “Easy,” which climbed to the Top Ten on the music discovery blog Hype Machine and reached number one on Billboard’s Twitter-based Emerging Artists chart. Their debut album, Centerfold, appeared on Kitsuné in 2016.
