Biography
Puerto Rican singer and actress Nydia Caro devoted time to vocal training, dance instruction, and acting classes throughout her years residing in New York. After her father’s death she returned to Puerto Rico, where her debut album Dímelo Tú appeared on the Tico label in 1967. Employment at a local television station soon led to a starring role in the soap opera Sombras del Pasado. Performing Carmen Mercado’s “Hermano Tengo Frio” brought her first-place honors at Bogota’s Festival, while Julio Iglesias’ “Vete Ya” earned third place at the Benidorm Festival and “Hoy Canto Por Cantar” secured victory at the 1974 OTI Festival. Her own television program attracted enormous audiences and hosted appearances by the leading Latin artists of the era. In 1998 she explored a different sound with the folk-new age album Amores Luminosos, whose songs drew directly from religious lyrics.
