Emerging as frontrunners in an unexpectedly robust Christian ska-punk scene, the O.C. Supertones began their journey when vocalist Matt Morginsky, drummer Jason Carson, and bassist Tony Terusa first assembled a group called Saved. Unable to secure a recording contract, this foundational trio established the O.C. Supertones, progressively incorporating additional musicians such as guitarist Brian Johnson, trombonist Dan Spencer, saxophonist Dave Chevalier, and trumpeter Darrin Mettler. In May 1996, this seven-piece ensemble issued their first full-length record, The Adventures of the O.C. Supertones, via the Christian punk imprint Tooth & Nail, which operated under the direction of prominent MXPX figures from the genre. Following joint performances alongside those same artists toward the close of that year, the O.C. Supertones put out The Supertones Strike Back during the middle of 1997.
