Biography
Emerging from Gothenburg in the late 2000s, Sweden's Olsson fused an affinity for vintage soft rock and dance grooves with a vivid contemporary visual style, first gaining recognition fronting the pop group Fibes, Oh Fibes! and later balancing that foundation with production and songwriting work for mainstream artists including Charli XCX while issuing his own colorful solo projects, such as the 2017 release Millions and the 2019 follow-up Tropical Cologne.
Christian Olsson launched his professional path in 2001 as frontman of the Gothenburg soft rock band Fibes, Oh Fibes!, whose piano-driven, soul-infused sound drew from Phil Collins, Lionel Richie, and Fleetwood Mac. Serving as lead vocalist and primary songwriter, he guided the outfit through several favorably received independent recordings until Universal offered a deal, after which the 2009 album 1987 reached the Swedish Top Ten. That set spawned multiple hits written by Olsson and earned the group a Swedish Grammy for Pop Album of the Year. Fibes, Oh Fibes! returned with Album in 2012, after which Olsson shifted focus to behind-the-scenes work, crafting material for Charli XCX, Jacob Banks, Daniel Adams-Ray, and Mapei.
Adopting the solo moniker Olsson, he issued his first single, the gritty dance track "Hold On" featuring Mapei, in 2016. The song surfaced the next year on his Universal debut LP Millions. Blending shadowy soul textures, contemporary dance-pop, and indie-rock edges, Millions signaled a fresh artistic direction, which he extended with the more polished Tropical Cologne two years later.
