Picnic

Hailing from Tallinn, Estonia—an unexpected center for independent music—the dream pop trio Picnic consists of Marju Taukar, Rivo Järvsoo, and Andres Soosaar. Longtime participants in the country’s compact yet lively music community, the three had previously performed together in other groups before establishing Picnic during 2006. Drawing from Sigur Rós, Cocteau Twins, and My Bloody Valentine, they fuse the hazy textures of classic shoegaze with the gentle, atmospheric songcraft associated with dream pop. After signing with the Tallinn-based independent label Seksound Records, they issued their first full-length album, Winter Honey, in 2010. Positive response to the record led American imprint Shelflife Records to issue a 7" single in 2011. Opting to track material at home instead of in professional facilities, the band devoted an extended period to crafting their sophomore effort. That process yielded The Weather’s Fine in 2013, which appeared via Shelflife in partnership with Seksound.
