The Spanish rock scene has seen few composers as productive as Ramoncín, whose real name is José Ramón Julio Martínez Márquez. He started penning poems during his acting lessons before making his stage debut in 1973 at the Long Play venue, where he performed Bob Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" alongside Don McLean's "American Pie." By 1975 he had assembled his own musical group. Following a contract with EMI-Odeón, the album Ramoncín y WC came out in 1978, the same year he earned recognition as both Best Composer and Best Performer. His literary work Animal de Ojos Caidos appeared in print during 1979, and two years later he took a leading part in the film Adolescencia. EMI-Odeón put out his initial collection of hit recordings, Colección Privada, in 1992. Ramoncín contributed a rendition of "Little Sister" to the Elvis Presley homage album Tributo Al Rey. Marking two decades in music, he launched Angel de Cuero: 20 Años de Canciones on November 6, 2000.
