Ricchi E Poveri

The vocal quartet Ricchi e Poveri, whose name translates as The Rich and the Poor, assembled in Italy in 1967. Its original lineup comprised Franco Gatti, born October 4, 1945, in Genoa, Angela Brambati, born October 20, 1949, in Genoa, Angelo Sotgiu, born February 22, 1947, in Trinita d'Agultu, and Marina Occhiena, born March 10, 1959, in Genoa. Second prizes at the Sanremo festival went to the group in 1970 for "La Prima Cosa Bella" and again in 1971 for "Che Sarà," elevating them among Italy's most popular acts. Once Occhiena departed during the 1980s, the remaining trio moved toward lighter, dance-oriented material; as one of Sanremo's regulars, Ricchi e Poveri at last captured first prize there in 1985 with "Se M'Innamoro."
