Biography
For over a quarter-century Enzo Ghinazzi, better known as Pupo, has left a lasting mark on the landscape of pop music. The release of his debut single “Ti Sorivero” in 1975 set in motion an international trajectory that yielded multiple chart-topping albums and numerous honors, among them the Gondola D’Oro awarded in 1981 for the album Piu Di Prima.
Extensive global touring carried him to such storied stages as London’s Royal Albert Hall, New York’s Madison Square Garden, Toronto’s Maple Garden, and Paris’ L’Olympia. A 1986 excursion across the former Soviet Union included performances in the historic theaters of Tallin, Leningrad, and Moscow, cementing a devoted following that endures today.
Shifting focus toward broadcasting in 1989, he assumed hosting duties for Italy’s highest-rated Sunday variety show, Domenica In. Returning to recording and live work by 1991, he issued Canada’s Wonderland and promoted it through an extensive Canadian tour. After a period of inactivity, he reentered the studio in 1995 to complete Pupo 1996; the resulting singles “Senza Fortuna” and “La Notte” restored him to public prominence.
In 1997 he settled once more in Italy and became a frequent presence on the television program Va Ora In Onda. The following year he issued Tornero, an album comprising nine original compositions alongside four reinterpreted classics presented with fresh arrangements.
