Biography
Brother and sister Gianni and Marcella Bella launched their joint recording career in the early 1970s, scoring early successes with tracks including “Hai Ragione Tu” (1971), “Montagne Verdi” (1972), “Io Domani” (1973), and “Nessuno Mai” (1974). Marcella’s appearance at the inaugural Sanremo Festival, where she performed “Montagne Verdi,” played a decisive role in bringing the pair to Italian listeners. The Bellas later received the Gondola of Gold Award from the Mostra Internazionale di Venezia in recognition of the album “Nessuno Mai.” Throughout the 1980s their work was shaped by repeated partnerships with the noted producer Mogol, yielding projects such as GB1 (1983), Una Luce (1986), and Due Cuori Rossi di Vergogna (1988). After stepping away for several years to raise her three sons, Marcella reemerged with Passato e Presente, which included the single “Fa Chic” co-written by Giancarlo Bigazzi and Gianni. The siblings, each already established in solo work, reunited once more for the 2007 album Per Sempre; its national-chart placement underscored more than three decades of achievement by the Sicilian pop icons.
