Biography
Known for crafting intimate, emotionally exposed material delivered in a hushed vocal manner, Sara Kays entered the recording sphere with her debut EP A House Too Big in 2018. Raised in Indiana, she received her first guitar at age thirteen as a gift from her mother. Within a year she was performing on the streets of her hometown, refining her singing, songwriting, and playing skills throughout high school. Following graduation she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she attended college and appeared at open mikes plus other local stages. After one year in Atlanta she relocated to Nashville, the city in which her first EP had been recorded.
During 2020, while resuming her studies, Kays became a viral sensation through a series of ukulele performances of her songs posted on social media. That October the seven-track Camera Shy EP presented fuller arrangements whose gently atmospheric versions of tracks such as “Smaller Than This” and “Home for Summer” accumulated millions of streams, further expanding her audience. In 2021 she returned with the EP Struck by Lightning, which included a collaboration with Cavetown.
