Biography
Scrim, an underground rapper rooted in New Orleans, cultivates a shadowy and abrasive strain of hip-hop. Recognition first arrived through his role in the duo $uicideboy$, ahead of the 2020 solo debut A Man Rose from the Dead; four years later he delivered the sophomore set Lonely Boy, which again confronted weighty themes and a probing look at personal turmoil.
Born Scott Anthony Arceneaux, Jr. in 1989 in Marrero, Louisiana, and also known as $lick $loth, he cultivated an early interest in music by absorbing the sounds of T-Pain and Kanye West. While studying at Delgado Community College he purchased a laptop and started DJ'ing. The year 2014 brought the formation of $uicideboy$ with his cousin Ruby da Cherry; steady online momentum culminated in 2018 when their studio debut I Want to Die in New Orleans entered the Billboard 200's Top Ten. The following year they joined blink-182 drummer Travis Barker for the EP Live Fast, Die Whenever, which also incorporated guitar work from Korn's James Shaffer.
Scrim's first solo album, A Man Rose from the Dead, appeared in 2020 after sessions in Palm Desert, California, and reflected his path to sobriety. He waited until February 2024 to unveil the 26-track follow-up Lonely Boy, whose close examination of pain and trauma carried it to the top of the Heatseekers chart and to number 137 on the Billboard 200.
