Biography
Few supergroups built from ostensibly underground heavy metal players reach mainstream visibility as closely as Shrinebuilder, the project formed by vocalist/guitarist Scott "Wino" Weinrich of the Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, the Hidden Hand, and others, alongside vocalist/guitarist Scott Kelly of Neurosis who also contributes vocals and guitar, bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros of Sleep and Om, and Melvins drummer Dale Crover. On the quartet’s self-titled 2009 LP, the musicians fused sonic threads from their collective histories across heavy metal, doom, post-metal, and further territories, shaping the material into five expansive pieces of monumental breadth and crushing mass. Shrinebuilder subsequently played a limited run of live dates, and press accounts indicate the members plan additional collaborative work in the years ahead.
