Biography
Emerging from Helsinki, the Finnish rock outfit Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit came together in 1988 and achieved widespread popularity throughout the 1990s, sustaining that appeal well into subsequent decades. The lineup features Juha Lehti handling vocals, Jussi Virtanen on guitar, Junnu Saaresaho at the piano, Arttu Leskinen on drums, and Puppe Luomanmäki playing bass. Originally, Riku Järvinen occupied the bass position among the founders until his untimely passing in a 2004 accident, after which Luomanmäki stepped in. Their recording career began in 1991 upon the release of Varjoissa Vapaan Mailman, with Yö Tekee Meistä Varkaat arriving the following year. Breakthrough came via the 1993 album Kymmenen Tikku Laudalla, which housed the hit single "Viimeisellä Rannalla," later included on the 1998 compilation Varjoja, Varkaita ja Vanhoja Valokuvia. That collection followed the strong performance of the group's fifth studio effort, Puunukke, which landed in the Top Five in 1997. Later releases Pyhää Kamaa from 1999 and Pohjoisesta Tuulee Taas in 2001 also charted successfully in Finland, placing within the Top Ten or better. Among the band's notable singles are "Sua Seuraan," "Suomineito," and "Pahaa Verta," which appeared across additional installments of the Varjoja, Varkaita ja Vanhoja Valokuvia series issued in 2005 and 2009.
