Soulsearcher, a house duo, earned their greatest renown through the worldwide club phenomenon “Can’t Get Enough.” The endeavor united vocalist Thea Austin with producer Marc Pomeroy, each a seasoned figure in dance music circles. Pittsburgh-born Austin launched her professional path as a staff writer at the industry trade paper The R&B Report, then turned to performing; in 1991 she aligned with the German production team of Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti in Snap!, co-writing and supplying lead vocals on their global dance blockbuster “Rhythm Is a Dancer.” Florida-born Pomeroy first drew broad attention in 1991 while serving as producer for Nile Rodgers’ Ear Candy imprint, later delivering remixes for Busta Rhymes, Loleatta Holloway, and Tony! Toni! Toné! before establishing his own Soulfuric Recordings label. The pair assembled as Soulsearcher in 1999 and shaped “Can’t Get Enough” around samples drawn from Gary’s Gang’s 1979 hit “Let’s Lovedance Tonight”; the single rose to Top Ten pop status in the U.K., and that summer the duo performed at Prince Charles’ all-star Prince’s Trust Party in the Park concert in London. Soulsearcher’s follow-up “Do It to Me Again” climbed to number 13 in Britain in 2000, yet Pomeroy and Austin soon parted company, with the former singer scoring another major club success in 2001 on Pusaka’s “You’re the Worst Thing for Me” while the producer launched Jazz-N-Groove Productions with Brian Tappert.
