Greg Chin, whose productions and DJ sets as Stryke range across ambient, techno, and house, had already begun making music by the time his family relocated to Florida in 1980. Classical influences such as Chopin and Beethoven initially shaped his work, yet exposure to the early electronic textures of Vengelis, Depeche Mode, and New Order prompted him to incorporate a synthesizer alongside his other instruments. Several electronic symphonies later, he turned his attention to DJing and soon issued his debut mix CD, United State of Ambience, Vol. 2, through Moonshine Music. His first artist album, Reality Base, appeared on Adrenalin Records in 1997. The following year he issued material under various pseudonyms while also collaborating with Giant Smith. Additional ventures include the Ad Finem project alongside vocalist Tabatha Byng and the Homebase collaboration with Jorge Del Rey for Guidance Records. Late January 2001 brought the downtempo and ambient release Staying In on Sunrise Recordings.
