Toronto-born singer/songwriter Sway Clarke, also known as Sway Clarke II, delivers literate and emotionally charged performances that fuse soulful R&B with indie-acoustic textures, alt-rock energy, and hip-hop rhythms. Raised in Toronto, Canada, he absorbed reggae and R&B from his father’s record collection during childhood, then encountered Brit-pop as a teenager. Self-taught on guitar, he began composing original material and gradually merged admiration for Radiohead and Oasis with the work of Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z. His songwriting career took shape through contributions to other artists, most notably rapper Tinie Tempah. Success in that role prompted a move to Germany, where he sustained his work as a songwriter while refining a personal style. Online attention built around 2013 for tracks such as “I Don’t Need Much” and “Secret Garden,” yet a problematic recording contract stalled further progress by shelving much of his material. Clarke nevertheless immersed himself in Berlin’s lively arts scene and persisted with new music. He resurfaced in 2017 with the single “Either Way,” then issued “Drugs” the following year.
