Biography
The Charm the Fury, a Dutch metalcore band, assembled in 2010 around vocalist Caroline Westendorp, guitarists Rolf Perdok and Mathijs Parent, bassist Lucas Arnoldussen, and drummer Mathijs Tieken. Their debut EP, The Social Meltdown, arrived in 2012 and drew from Metallica and Pantera for its crushing weight. That intensely heavy recording marked a new direction among female-fronted metal groups by centering the music itself along with socially conscious lyrics. Listenable Records signed the band in 2013, resulting in the full-length debut A Shade of My Former Self. Extensive touring at major European festivals and clubs helped them develop a loyal audience across the continent. In 2016 the group reentered the studio, now with Martijn Slegtenhorst in place of Parent on guitar, to track their second album. Early the following year Nuclear Blast issued The Sick, Dumb & Happy, which delivered a noticeably rawer statement than their earlier material.
