In 2008 the Count & Sinden stormed British dancefloors by fusing dubstep, grime, house and further strains of underground club music on their irresistible single “Beeper.” London-based Joshua “The Count of Monte Cristal” Harvey and Graeme Sinden—each already accomplished as producers, DJs and remixers—first joined forces in 2006 on the electro cut “Tamborzuda.” The following year they issued the house-leaning track “Everybody Rocking,” yet by 2008 they leaned fully into grime, teamed with Chicago rapper Kid Sister and dropped “Beeper” via the Domino imprint. The release exploded, prompting reworkings from A-Trak, Jonny L, the Qemists, Sunship and numerous unofficial versions that propelled it to the top of the U.K. Dance Singles chart. During the same twelve months the pair caught the rising “B’more” wave and recruited Baltimore vocalist and M.I.A. collaborator Rye Rye for the single “Hardcore Girls.”
