The Katinas

The Katinas consist of five brothers who entered the world in American Samoa, roughly 1,000 miles south of Hawaii. Their songs convey both devotion to the Lord and deep affection for their mother, who passed away soon after the family relocated to Washington State in 1988; Nashville became their next home in the wake of that loss.

While still young, the brothers began harmonizing and soon took the stage at churches and fairs. Over time their focus sharpened on a musical message centered on love, faith, and family, yielding numerous compositions written in tribute to their mother. Nationwide tours with R. Kelly, Jasmine Guy, DC Talk, and Amy Grant followed by 1995.

Independent recordings preserved the ensemble’s energetic, soulful approach: the 1991 albums Katina Boyz and We Believe paved the way for a contract with Gotee Records in 1997. That same year brought the EP The Katinas, with a self-titled full-length appearing in 1999. So Good arrived the next year, and Destiny reached stores in spring 2001. Their standing in the Christian rock scene was reinforced in 2009 by the deluxe CD/DVD Live at the Rock San Diego.
