They Hate Change, a Florida-based pair, craft energetic tracks that fuse atmospheric breakbeats with rap cadences drawn from Dirty South traditions. Influences span drum'n'bass and grime through post-punk and indie rock. The lineup comprises producers, rappers, and dedicated music fans Dre and Vonne, who began self-releasing material in the early 2010s. Wider notice arrived with their second Deathbomb Arc outing, the 2018 album Now, and Never Again. Their first Jagjaguwar release, the 2022 album Finally, New, followed.

Dre (Andre Gainey) and Vonne (John Harrison) grew up as neighbors in the same apartment complex. Both had hunted for sounds online since childhood, drawn to regional strains of hip-hop and bass music alongside British styles such as drum'n'bass and grime and rock variants from Krautrock to emo. The Tampa Bay act launched recordings under They Hate Change, with occasional use of the Retail Therapy name, in 2012. Cycles, their album, appeared on Deathbomb Arc—home to forward-thinking hip-hop releases by clipping. and JPEGMAFIA—in 2015. The instrumental EP Meters arrived in 2017, and Now, and Never Again followed in 2018, soon joined by a deluxe edition of Cycles. Three EPs surfaced in 2019: Clearwater, Juices Run Clear, and Maneuvers. Godmode issued the drum'n'bass-heavy 666 Central Ave. in 2020. THC joined Jagjaguwar in 2021 with the single "Faux Leather." Finally, New emerged the next year, preceding a tour alongside post-punk band Shame.
