Tyra Bolling grew up in Petersburg, Virginia, where an early ambition to work in entertainment took hold. During elementary school she began performing songs and dances at local talent shows, devoting much of her spare time to rehearsal. That preparation led to a breakthrough in 2004 when a Richmond DJ spotted her at one such event and began spinning her single “Country Boy” on his station. The exposure, together with the popularity of her follow-up “Still in Love,” quickly made her a regional favorite and earned her an opening slot on Destiny’s Child’s summer 2005 tour. Bolling soon signed with Warner Bros., which scheduled her debut album Introducing Tyra—featuring the track “Get No Ooh Wee”—for release. The project remained on hold until 2008, when the single “Giving Me a Rush” gained traction on radio and television, prompting the artist, now performing as Tyra B, to issue her first full-length record, Past Due.
