Born on February 1, 1979, in Hitonhueca, Sonora, Valentin Elizalde entered the world as the son of Lalo “El Gallo” Elizalde and would later earn recognition as a leading voice in Mexican banda. Although he first enrolled at the University of Sonora, the draw of music proved stronger, prompting him to launch a professional performing career while still very young. Those early stage appearances quickly led to studio opportunities, and in 1999 “El Gallo de Oro” issued his debut solo album, Regresan los Mafiosos. Over the following years he maintained a steady pace of one release annually, gradually securing a respected place within the norteño field. His profile rose further in 2006 when the song “Sobre la Tumba de Mi Padre” appeared on the soundtrack of the Mexican motion picture Al Otro Lado.

On November 25 of that same year, the twenty-seven-year-old singer was fatally shot during an ambush in Reynosa, alongside companions Mario Mendoza and Raymundo Ballesteros, only twenty minutes after completing a performance at a local fair. Reports have linked the attack to lyrics Elizalde had directed at Los Zetas, the armed group tied to Mexico’s narcotics underworld. Fans mourned the loss of Valentin “El Gallo de Oro” Elizalde as a profound blow, and in the years since, numerous posthumous recordings and tributes have appeared to keep his legacy alive.
