El Chapo de Sinaloa, a regional Mexican performer steeped in rancheras, boleros, and corridos, maintains an extensive discography highlighted by the 2007 release Te Va a Gustar, which earned a Grammy. Ernesto Pérez entered the world in Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Mexico, and launched his major-label phase in the mid-1990s via EMI Latin with the albums El Chichi (1995) and 13 Toneladas (1996). Toward the close of that decade he moved to Sony Discos, where he issued Padre de Todos (1999), Me Dicen el Rey (2000), Que Tal Si Te Compro (2001), Hechizo de Amor: Cien por Ciento Norteno (2002), El #1 de Jaripeno (2002), and Fantasia Loca (2003). In the mid-2000s another shift took him to Disa, resulting in La Noche Perfecta (2006), El Jaripeo (2006), 15 Autenticos Exitos (2007), Te Va a Gustar (2007), and La Historia (2008). Within that Disa sequence, Te Va a Gustar stood out by capturing the Grammy for Best Banda Album in 2007 while also reaching the summit of the Billboard Regional Mexican album chart. Among his most prominent singles stand “Recostada en la Cama,” “Detras de la Puerta,” “Para Que Regreses,” “La Noche Perfecta,” and “A Ti Si Puedo Decirte.” The 2008 album Para Siempre climbed to number two on the Mexican Regional Albums chart and number three on the Hot Latin Albums chart, ultimately securing four Lo Nuestro Awards. Over the ensuing three years at least four projects, among them a hits collection, appeared simultaneously on both charts. Following 2010 the singer concentrated increasingly on individual tracks, scoring notable placements with “Embrujado” and “Regal del Cielo” in 2011, “Fuerte” and “Mi Todo” in 2012, and the video success “Te Amo” in 2013. By 2014 he returned to full-length projects with Hace Falta un Beso, his concluding studio effort for Universal. He inaugurated his association with Sony’s Luz imprint through the duet collection Frente a Frente alongside Roberto Tapia, then delivered Camina Sin Mirar Atrás later the same year. After more than twelve months of nonstop roadwork he resurfaced with Sol y Luna in 2017.
