Vant formed as a London-based indie rock quartet whose songs channel discontent and anger toward global conditions, drawing influence from politically outspoken acts like the Clash and Rage Against the Machine. Their resulting sound delivers matching intensity by fusing abrasive garage rock with punk energy. The project originated in 2013 when guitarist and vocalist Mattie Vant began working alone while based in Newcastle, England. After relocating to London he took a management role at the Birthdays venue, where he connected with bassist Billy Morris and guitarist Henry Eastham. The three started collaborating, and the roster reached completion in early 2014 once Mattie Vant persuaded drummer Martin Söderin to relocate from Sweden. The members spent the next twelve months developing songs, then caught Parlophone’s interest in 2015; the label signed them straight after hearing the eighty-second track “Parasite,” which they had already issued themselves on Dumb Blood Records. Parlophone next released the follow-up single “The Answer,” after which the band launched a lengthy U.K. tour. Later in 2015 drummer David “Greenie” Green replaced Söderin. Once an extended stretch of nonstop live work concluded, Vant confirmed that their debut album Dumb Blood would arrive in early 2017.
