Biography
Canadian non-binary doom duo Vile Creature formed in Hamilton, Ontario, during 2014 when Vic, handling drums and vocals, joined forces with guitarist and vocalist KW. The pair launched live performances in early 2015 and delivered their first album, A Steady Descent into the Soil, that March through Broken Limbs. Their sound fuses raw sludge with experimental funeral-doom metal while confronting veganism, LGBTQ and animal rights, and broader anti-oppression concerns.
Later in 2016 they issued the extended single “A Pessimistic Doomsayer,” an eighteen-minute track, then embarked on a Midwest U.S. tour. Their second album, Cast of Static and Smoke, arrived in 2018 via Halo of Flies and adopted a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi visual approach; the record earned widespread praise. Following Canadian and American dates in support, the duo crossed to the United Kingdom in 2019 for joint performances with sludge-and-doom pair Bismuth and also performed at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands. That same year they signed with Prosthetic Records, which issued their third album, Glory! Glory! Apathy Took Helm, in June 2020.
