Voz A Voz

In Santo Domingo, three youths from economically disadvantaged single-parent families founded the Dominican pop vocal ensemble Voz a Voz, a circumstance they have always discussed without hesitation. The lineup consists of Gilberto Cesar D'Oleo ("Gio"), Ammy Yatniel Acosta ("Ammy"), and David Leonardo Rosario Pimentel ("David"). A record producer affiliated with the Urban Box Office label first encountered the trio while they performed at the Hotel Bavaro. Drawing from the island’s own rhythmic and melodic traditions, the singers developed a hybrid they termed “R&B”: Rhythm and Bachata. Their output features soulful, urban-tinged three-part harmonies that blend Dominican and U.S. sensibilities in equal measure. The same impulse led them to redefine the group’s guiding principles. Rather than chasing financial reward in the manner of many peers who share their origins, Voz a Voz prioritize earning their listeners’ respect, pledging a substantial share of profits to aid the poor and ensure equitable relief reaches communities mirroring their own upbringing. Urban Box Office likewise pledged to direct a percentage of revenue from the debut album En Presencia del Futuro toward UNICEF.
