Britain's Will Samson entered the music scene in the early 2010s by fusing ethereal electronic ambient layers with organic composition. Across his independent output and joint projects such as the 2015 Animal Hands LP shared with Heimer, his recordings maintain a careful equilibrium between intricate experimental textures and direct acoustic songwriting, the latter surfacing most clearly on Welcome Oxygen in 2017 and Paralanguage in 2019.

Born in England to Luso-Indian parents, Samson began issuing material in 2010 when the Japanese label Plop released his debut Hello Friends, Goodbye Friends. Tours throughout the U.K. and Europe alongside Ólafur Arnalds, Do Make Say Think, and Marissa Nadler preceded the 2012 album Balance, issued on Germany's Karaoke Kalk. That record introduced analog tape techniques that shaped his subsequent production methods.

After the 2013 EP It Grows Again with Tom Demac and the 2015 album Animal Hands with Heimer, he delivered the solo album Ground Luminosity in 2015 on the French label Talitres Records. During the same stretch he performed as touring drummer for the art-pop group Fenster. A stay in Portugal left its mark on his next work. Recorded back in England, the 2017 release Welcome Oxygen adopted a spare, organic stance built around nylon-string guitar, violin, and restrained vocals. After moving to Brussels he continued emphasizing acoustic components on Paralanguage, his first album for the Wichita label.
